Our 4 Top Tips for Embracing Your Home Post-Holiday Decor
As another year draws to a close, we stand ready to dismantle our holiday decorations and start fresh. Removing the holiday décor can be daunting, accompanied by bittersweet memories that may evoke a little sadness or nostalgia.
Before starting your New Year's resolutions, it's essential to eliminate the physical, mental, and emotional clutter accumulated from the preceding year. For a fresh start, create space by thoroughly reviewing all items and discarding or donating anything that no longer serves you.
However, after the busy holidays, decluttering and reorganizing don't quite happen on their own; we need to set objectives and have regular reminders of our goals. This will increase the likelihood that our brain will consider and work toward achieving them.
Today, I'll quickly review some tips for designing and organizing our physical space and minds in the coming year.
Tip #1: Thoroughly Refresh Your Space with Diligent Deep Cleaning
To start, place all the like items together, separate the ones that no longer serve us, and put those items for donation. It is important to properly wrap all the kept holiday items, appropriately place them in the labeled containers or boxes, and arrange them in an orderly fashion. We want to avoid opening a box of holiday decorations to discover tangled wires, messy boxes, and partially damaged chaos of lights.
After removing the holiday decorations is the best time to thoroughly clean the house. Dusting and vacuuming the area is essential to restore a clean and fresh space. This helps keep the environment tidy and ready for the next season. Also, this is an excellent time to rearrange the furniture and create a new and refreshing layout. Before I forget, this is the perfect time to clean your oven if you spend a lot of time baking or cooking over the holidays
Tip #2: Be Open to Change
In redecorating or rearranging each space in our home, you can simplify and declutter.
Embrace what you still love: Prioritize keeping and integrating elements that bring joy or have sentimental value.
Donate the rest: Consider parting with items that you no longer want. Donating these items can contribute to a sense of calmness and renewal and benefit others who may find value in them.
Be open to change: Embrace the opportunity to explore new styles, colors, and arrangements. Being open to change allows for creativity and the possibility of discovering fresh and inspiring design ideas. For example, incorporating greenery, fresh flowers, candles, or beautiful cushions and throws can significantly enhance the warmth of the space, creating a welcoming environment.
Remember, the key is to create a living space that reflects your evolving tastes and preferences while maintaining a sense of harmony and comfort.
Tip #3: Create Order Through Organization
Achieving a tidy and organized space is not the result of random actions. It involves decluttering and categorizing belongings, utilizing storage solutions, and establishing routines for maintenance.
Implementing storage solutions such as shelves and bins helps keep items easily accessible and in designated places.
Sustaining order is ensured by labeling and reevaluating your organizing structure regularly.
By prioritizing accessibility, creating designated zones, and incorporating digital organization, you can streamline both physical and digital spaces for a more efficient and visually pleasing environment.
Tip #4: Be Mindful of Making Time for Little Moments
Take a moment and set a new resolution for the new year. Let’s develop the habit of tidying up as you go about your daily chores. Establishing a daily resetting routine is one valuable and easy approach to keeping your home tidy yet functional. Perhaps dedicating 15 to 20 minutes daily to rearranging your living space would help create a calm and peaceful atmosphere.
For example, determine short windows of time when you can clean up as your food is cooking. During this time, pans, pots, or cutlery can be cleaned and stored. You can clean the countertops and kitchen floor while waiting for the meal to become ready. In the process, you may tackle the living room and tidy up by removing unnecessary items from the coffee table and rearranging the pillows and throws.
Without putting in a lot of work, you may significantly improve your room. Essentially, I am trying to stress the significance of putting items back where they belong after use. This simple practice can prevent the accumulation of clutter and maintain an organized environment.
